ACO Perscription

Health care is a frequently debated topic among the government, insurers, practices, and beneficiary’s. The United States is always trying to improve our care, and model it off of other countries programs that have it down to a science. Now that health care is undergoing major changes, the U.S is looking into new more affordable and improved care for patients.

ACO, which stands for Accountable Care Organizations, is a new approach to fulfilling this role. An ACO is a voluntary local health care organization that includes a set of providers such as hospitals, and physicians. They are held accountable for high quality care to a distinct population. The goal is to give efficient health care while saving money for patients, providers, and the government.

The video above is a brief description of CMS announcing the ACO rule. It explains in detail the mechanisms behind ACO, to help clarify how it will improve health care, and save money for all if executed correctly.
